Every year I have the honor of photographing seniors who play in the Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia.  This year, one of the seniors from this elite organization (click here for more information) came to me for his senior photos.  Jacob graduated with honors from Hickory High School (Class of 2016) and is an exceptionally talented musician, so we wanted to showcase him with all of his instruments. (Yes, he is accomplished with four different wind instruments... )

So, first we started off with more casual attire and worked to get a window effect of light streaming down on him.

We then moved on to a more formal setting, where I really think he nailed the James Bond look pretty well.

I also wanted to showcase all the different instruments he studies, as well as work toward a fun composite, all of Jacob. And this is what we came up with.

I asked him if he was game to do a slightly different image, which is featured below on the top.  It's something we typically do with sports fanatics, particularly baseball players.  Instead of using a baseball bat, of course, we used a clarinet! Also, featured below, is Jacob in his future music conservatory's t-shirt.  (For those unfamiliar with some of the great music conservatories in the U.S., this is one of the top in the country. For a look at the conservatory, click here.)

Mind you, Jacob is looking pretty serious for his images, but he also has one of the greatest senses of humor I've experienced.  I know he will excel in college and beyond and can't wait to hear him play soon.  When he's famous, I'll be able to say "I knew him when... "

Oh, yes.  And this final image? I always ask my seniors, "If there is one place you could be for your photos, where would you like to be?" Well, you can see from the image below, that would be the Berlin Concert Hall or Konzerthaus Berlin.

Best of luck, Jacob!
